Help to Buy Scheme

The Help to Buy scheme is a Government initiative that is intended to make the housing market more affordable for first-time buyers. An Incentive to help you secure a New Home Through this Government initiative, you can now get a refund of the Income Tax deducted from your salary over the past 4 year and Deposit Interest Retention Tax (DIRT) charged on interest earned on bank deposits over the same period. The maximum relief available to you is 5% of the purchase price of your new home, which may make saving the money for your mortgage deposit more manageable.

Key criteria that you must meet to qualify for the Incentive

  • You must be a first-time buyer.
  • If you are acquiring a home with a partner, then neither of you can have built or bought a house or apartment in the past.
  • Your tax affairs must be in order, whether you are a PAYE employee of self employed
  • Since 1 January 2017, the Help to Buy scheme only applies to properties costing €500,000 or less

Your Property Developer must qualify
